Unprepared chunk of rock, its pieces just glued back together after it was split by the hammer. The fact that the thorax and the tail shield are easily visible often indicates a complete specimen of his little trilobite.
The preparator works his way towards the cephalic shield. In a first step, quite an amount of matrix has to be removed using air-pressured chisels. The remainder of the matrix is then meticulously chipped away using steel needles.
Almost finished: a complete specimen of this little Phacopid from the Devonian of Morocco. It will become a very nice piece of work, once the surface has received its finishing treatment. Preparation was done by Dieter Holland.
