Classification : Ptychopariida - Ptychopariina - Ptychoparioidea
Représentant type de cette famille : Ptychoparia (Hawle & Corda, 1847)

Diagnose générale de cette famille :
Cephalon : de forme globalement semi-circulaire avec une nette bordure convexe.
Glabelle de forme trapézoïdale composée de 3 à 4 paires de sillons latéraux peu profond.
Champ pré-glabellaire existant modérément large convexe, rarement concave. Lobe palpébral
Bien développé avec crête oculaire bien marquée et au bout, des yeux en forme de croissant de lune.
Librigènes assez allongées se terminant par une pointe génale allant de courte à assez longue.
Suture faciale de type «Opisthoparian»
Thorax : composé de 12 à 17 segments thoraciques, rachis modérément convexe, avec des
Plèvres assez plates et se finissant avec un petits angle.
Pygidium : de taille relativement petites et de forme semi-circulaire, mais bien plus large que
Long composé de peu de segments et avec sillon pleuraux bien marqués.
La surface pygidiale pouvant aussi être lisse et presque dépourvue de sillon.

Répartition : du Cambrien inférieur à l’Ordovicien inférieur
