A Trilobite-Lover's Lament

by Kenneth C. Gass

I found the perfect trilobite,
All free of matrix too.
But then I fell and dropped it
And the darned thing broke in two!

I wasn't injured from the fall,
But I was feeling blue.
How could I be so clumsy?
But just what was I to do?

Regaining all my senses,
An idea came in view.
I reached inside my pocket
And pulled out a tube of glue.

The fossil now looks pretty good,
But not as good as new.
I'm sure I'm not the only one
Who this has happened to.
